Where is the property?

The postcode tells us your area and your network operator.

Either way is fine. It changes what we quote for.

What is in the job

EV charger faults we fix, and units we replace

Tripping and earth faults

The most common call. Testing separates a circuit or vehicle fault from moisture ingress and from a protective device that was never right for the installation.

Failed and unresponsive units

Charge points that will not start a session, will not authorise, or have stopped entirely. Repaired where repairable, replaced where not.

Connectivity and firmware

Units offline, apps not reporting, back-office showing sessions that did not happen, firmware out of date.

Inspection and testing

Periodic inspection of the charging circuit with a written report, which commercial sites generally need on record.

Upgrades and replacements

Swapping an early or slow unit for a current smart charger. Where the existing cable, protective device and earthing test sound, the circuit is reused and it is priced as a swap, not a rebuild.

Moving a charge point

Relocating a unit when the parking changes, or adding a second one for a two-vehicle household on a shared load limit so the supply is never what gives way.

How a repair goes

How an EV charger repair works

We do not replace a unit before knowing which of the three usual causes it is. That is how working chargers get thrown away.

  1. Diagnose

Test the circuit, the protective device, the earthing arrangement and the unit itself. Tripping has three common causes and they need telling apart before anything is ordered.

  2. Quote the repair

What is wrong, what it takes to fix, and, separately, anything about the original installation that does not meet current standards.

  3. Repair and retest

Fault cleared, circuit retested, results recorded, so you have evidence the installation is sound.

The technical bit

EV chargers we can work on

Brand is not the constraint, for a repair or an upgrade. What matters is whether the fault is in the unit, the circuit or the vehicle, and what the existing installation tests like.

Who does the work

Qualified, insured and certified EV charger installers

Your job does not go to whoever answers first. Every installer working on our jobs clears the same six checks, and we verify them rather than take anyone's word for it. Here is the bar your installer will have met.

Registered with a competent person scheme

Your installer will be NAPIT registered, which is a government-approved scheme. It means the work is certified and notified without you needing a building control application.

TrustMark registered

We check for TrustMark, the government-endorsed standard for work in and around the home. It covers technical competence, trading practice and customer service, not just wiring.

Public liability insurance in date

We see the certificate before we send anyone a job, and you get a copy with your quote. An expired policy is the most common thing we turn installers away for.

Qualified, and experienced with EVs

City and Guilds qualified electricians working to BS 7671, with EV charging experience specifically. A charger circuit is not the place for someone learning on your house.

Workmanship guaranteed

Your installation comes with a workmanship guarantee from the installer, separate from and on top of the manufacturer warranty on the unit itself.

Publicly reviewed, and good

We only work with installers who have a public review record worth reading. Yours has over 160 positive Google reviews and a maintained TrustATrader profile.

Scheme registration numbers and insurance certificates come with your quote, so you can verify them yourself rather than taking a website's word for it. How we choose installers sets out all six checks, including what gets someone turned away.

Next step

Tell us what the charger is doing and we will say so what it usually means.

Tripping, dead, or online but refusing to charge. Each points somewhere different. The postcode and the symptom are enough to start.

Questions

EV charger repair questions

My charging point keeps tripping. What causes that?

Usually one of three things: a earth fault on the circuit or in the vehicle, moisture in the unit or connector, or a protective device that is nuisance-tripping because of how the circuit was originally arranged. Testing tells them apart, and no unit gets replaced until we know which it is.

Will you repair a charger someone else installed?

Yes, whatever the brand. If the original installation is unsafe or does not meet current regulations we will show you what is wrong and price that correction separately from the fault itself, so you can see which is which.

Do you cover commercial sites?

Yes, and it is a large part of this work. Multi-bay sites, access control and back-office faults, plus periodic inspection and testing with a written report for sites that need the evidence on file.

The unit is dead. Is it worth repairing?

Sometimes. Diagnosis tells you whether it is the unit, its supply or the circuit protection, and we will say plainly when replacement is the honest answer. We will not sell you a repair that fails in a year.

Can I keep the existing cable and circuit when upgrading?

Often yes. If the cable is the right size for the new unit, the protective device is correct and the earthing arrangement is sound, an upgrade is a unit swap. We test before deciding, because replacing a sound circuit is the easiest way to inflate an upgrade quote.

Is it worth upgrading to a 22kW unit?

Only if the property has a three-phase supply and your vehicle's on-board charger can use it. Most cars on a domestic single-phase supply charge at the same speed whichever unit is fitted, so the money goes further elsewhere.

Can you move my charging point to the other side of the house?

Yes. It is a new cable route and usually a new circuit, so it is priced as an installation, not a swap. The unit itself is normally reusable.
